Current UW–Madison Student
If you are a current UW–Madison student transferring from another on-campus school or college, follow the information below:
If you are not yet eligible to declare a major in our teacher preparation programs or kinesiology, you may switch to the School of Education as a Pre-major (eg. Pre-Elementary Ed, Pre-Kinesiology) at any time of year using the Pre-Professional Application.
Otherwise, current UW students eligible to declare a major may do so by following the instructions on this page. Eligibility, admission deadlines, and required forms vary by major.
Students from another institution
Transfer students from other institutions will need to apply and be admitted to both UW-Madison and the specific School of Education program of interest. Please use the Transfer application on the Office of Admissions & Recruitment website to apply to UW–Madison. School of Education program application forms and instructions can be found on this page. Students interested in Dance will need to audition. For dates and information see the Audition Process page.

Madison College -School of Education Transfer Agreement students
Must apply to UW–Madison through the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.

Second degree candidates
Second undergraduate degree students are seeking a second degree from the School of Education in an area that is different from the major coursework of the first degree. This degree may or may not include teacher certification. Candidates for limited enrollment programs must meet all admission eligibility requirements for the program and must compete with the eligible applicants for program admission.
Interested students will need to apply and be admitted to both UW–Madison and their School of Education program of interest.
